Point Lookout Lighthouse Newsletter #7

First Point Lookout Lighthouse Open House a Success!

The lighthouse was open for visitors from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday,
May 6th, 2006. Approximately 80 people toured the lighthouse.
Volunteers for this event were Robert Hall, Point Lookout Lighthouse
Historian, and Sandra Sableski of the Chesapeake Chapter of the US
Lighthouse Society. The park is looking for additional volunteers for
future open houses- contact Rob Jones at (301) 872-5688 if you are
interested.

Additional open houses will be held on the first Saturday of every
month from May thru November, provided volunteers are available. The
buoy and coal sheds will not be accessible to the public until
sometime in 2007, when the Navy removes the “golf ball” radar tracking
tower.

At future open houses, you will notice a donation box upon entering
the lighthouse. Donations will be used by a Friends of Point Lookout
Lighthouse Group to renovate the interior and maintain the exterior of
the lighthouse.

We hope to see you at a future open house!
