Point Lookout Lighthouse Newsletter #13

After the September and October Open Houses were cancelled due to flooding and inclement weather, the November 2006 Open House held on November 4th and 5th was a success.  We welcomed over 500 visitors over the weekend!

We met some descendents and friends of Lighthouse Keepers:

  1)  Jesse Yeatman, a descendant of  Keeper Yeatman, visited with his wife and daughter

2)

Alice Tennison-Jarboe and her son, Benedict Jarboe, were close family friends of Keeper Willis.  Ms. Alice  recalled fondly coming down to the Lighthouse over 79 years ago to pick wild blackberries and asparagus that grew behind the Smokehouse.  She told us that this was an annual event for her family.

3)

Shirley Tull-Smith was also a visitor.  She reported that her grandfather, Charles Tull, was actually born in the Lighthouse in the north side Den. He was the son of Eliza Yeatman.

4)

Shirley’s brother, Donald Tull and his wife, also visited.

At the open house, some other organizations and visitors were present:

  1)  Fish the Bay Charters, LLC – Captain Phil Langley and his wife

2)

Chesapeake Chapter of the U.S. Lighthouse Society – Sandra Sableski, Denise Reichard and Missy

3)

Piney Point Lighthouse

4)

Calvert County Marine Museum

5)

Point Lookout State Park

6)

Both days were beautiful and sunny but a little on the chilly side.  We welcomed many other visitors over both days including the following organizations:  the Blackistone Lighthouse project team from Colony Builders, Traditional Builders and Christian Mergner, a Feng Shui Consultant. Eunice Knott also visited and talked about experiences and showed photos of living in the lighthouse as a child from 1939 – 1952.

Plans are underway for the 2007 schedule for Open Houses, Paranormal Events and other Point Lookout Lighthouse Preservation Society, Inc. events.  All will be posted on both websites when finalized!  Visit our websites often over the next several months for the latest information!  Have a great Holiday season.
